Dr. Erwin N. Oechslin, director at the Congenital Cardiac Centre for Adults located at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, University Health Network, Toronto General Hospital, will be one of the panellists.
Krista Vriend, President of the Canadian Congenital Heart Alliance, and herself a CHD patient
Cathy Rizzo - a mother of a CHD child
Steve Paikin is the host/moderator
Congenital heart disease is a malformation of the heart, aorta, or other large blood vessels that is the most frequent form of major birth defect in newborns. While there are have been immense advances in surgical treatment and on-going care of CHD patients … there is still no cure and no solid understanding of what causes CHD. Babies and young children can only be repaired … they are never fixed.
Most patients require lifelong specialized cardiac care, first with a pediatric cardiologist and later with an adult congenital cardiologist.
There are over 250,000 Canadians born with CHD.
